George Washington Carver invented peanuts?

Peanuts were first imported from Africa and did well in the USA. Carver suggested that they be raised to replenish the nitrogen of the soil depleted by raising cotton. To encourage this, he developed dozens of products that could be made from peanuts. Peanut butter, however, was not one of them. That was already around.
